Success for Labour Councillor and Ruabon residents

For over a decade the three properties on the site of the Old Victoria Garage in Ruabon have been standing derelict. Labour Councillor Dana Matthews has worked tirelessly to find a solution to the site which was abandoned due to uncertainty over the land ownership.

The homes had been bought by the Crown Estate and sold on to Wales and West Housing earlier this year. Councillor Matthews said, “A previous developer started but never finished building the homes on this key site and because of legal complications around its ownership the area has effectively been abandoned for more than a decade. We’ve fought for a long time to get something done, so I’m thrilled we’re almost there at last.” The planned redevelopment is to demolish the derelict properties and to build social housing to benefit the local area. This was made possible by a grant of £583,000 made by the Welsh Labour Government. Clwyd South Labour AM Ken Skates said, “Wales & West is aiming to submit plans to redevelop the site by the end of the year. It has been an eyesore for years, so I’m delighted we’re now nearing a positive conclusion which will benefit local people.”
