Clwyd South Women’s Forum (CLICK HERE) held their Music, Politics & Fun on Saturday 29th June at Brymbo Sports and Social Club, near Wrexham. The event was well attended and raised vital funds for Wrexham Food Bank (CLICK HERE), The WINGS Project Wrexham (CLICK HERE) and Clwyd South Women’s Forum.

“We are amazed at the support and help we have received from so many people and we can’t thank everyone enough for the effort and time they have put in to making this event a success. From our wonderful stall holders to our performers we have been overwhelmed by their support. A special thanks needs to go to John Owen Jones, who worked really hard all day as our sound engineer, we really could not have done it without him, or without the sound system that was very generously lent to us by Brymbo Heritage Centre (CLICK HERE).

“Whilst the day was a success and everyone who attended enjoyed the it, it was not without its hiccups! Phil Odgers (CLICK HERE) and Cyd Pink (CLICK HERE) we’re both held up by problems with the train and it was touch and go as to whether they would make it! But they did and gave fantastic performances, even after such a traumatic journey! So a special thanks to them for their determination! Peter Stefanovic (CLICK HERE) gave us a great talk about his experiences and what drives him to be a passionate campaigner. As always our friend, Joe Solo (CLICK HERE), was inspirational and he is a favourite of Clwyd South Constituency Labour Party (CLP) members. It was also wonderful to make a new friend in Jess Silk (CLICK HERE), she gave a great performance and is a lovely person on top of that!

“Clwyd South MP Susan Elan Jones (CLICK HERE) was kind enough to come and give a speech about the difference these projects that we are supporting, make ‘on the ground’. We were also fortunate enough to have the wonderful local poet, David Subacci (CLICK HERE), along with the beautiful poetry of local(ish!) campaigner & good friend of Clwyd South, Lisa Rossetti (CLICK HERE). There was an excellent talk given by Wrexham Labour Party’s brilliant Georgina Gittins (CLICK HERE) and speech from Wrexham Labour Party & WINGS Wrexham’s Suzanne Nantcurvis (CLICK HERE). Thank you to Barry Cook (CLICK HERE) for singing, too. Even my husband and Chair of Clwyd South Labour Party, Vic Grout (CLICK HERE) opened the event with a few tunes (Vic is pictured below)! I would like to say a huge thank you to Zoe Clarke (CICK HERE) for all her hard work and support. Enormous credit must also go to Dave Kettlewell (CLICK HERE) for sorting the bands etc. We would also like to thank the venue Brymbo Sports & Social Complex (CLICK HERE).

“Speaking to all our guests afterwards they were stunned by the warm and friendly welcome they received. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped to make everyone feel welcome and the event such a success. In fact, it was so successful we have been asked to arrange another event for next year. I must confess that when it was first mentioned to me that we should do this again next year I said there was no way I could put myself through that again, however we have three performers who have confirmed they will be attending again in 2020…”

We would also like to point out how brilliant the performers are; everyone performed for free & all of them refused travel expenses. Incredible people! You can hear Helen discussing the event on the Joe Solo radio show BY CLICKING HERE & on Calon FM on Listen Again from Friday 28th June 19 HERE.
Once again, thank you to everyone who made this possible and to all performers & attendees. Solidarity!
